Air Conditioning
, Summer is so often referred to as the season to look forward to, when things come alive and the heat brings with it the opportunity to bring out those shorts, sandals and summer dresses and take full advantage of the great outdoors. However, hardly anyone talks about what happens when you get indoors: where scorching temperatures permeate every room of the house - were the sheer humidity and density of the warm air can be so unbearable that you literally have no idea what to do with yourself. For instances like these, there can be no greater relief than the relief provided by quality air conditioning. Willis Carrier, a young electrical engineer working at a printing company invented the first air conditioner was in 1902 by. He sought to find a solution to the fact that the paper stock would absorb a lot of moisture from the warm air. He found that processing the air through cooled pipes resulted not only in the reduction of the humidity that was so problematic for the printing process, but also a substantial decrease of the air temperature. This gave birth to air conditioning, a technology that provides comfort to millions of people today. However, air conditioning is associated with a number of negative attributes, the greatest of which being the high volumes of energy consumption and carbon emissions which are harmful to the environment. The chemical refrigerant gasses which some air conditioners emit are proven to corrode the Ozone layer. Poorly maintained air conditioning units have also been found to cause health conditions such as upper respiratory tract infections and Legionnaires disease. They are also associated with an adverse effect on the hearing of elderly people. Nevertheless, there are a wide range of solutions that can remedy some of the problems associated with air conditioning, the most important of which being regular servicing and the unclogging of air filters. In addition, maximum efficiency and decreased energy consumption can be achieved by simply keeping temperatures at 25-30 degrees. With responsible behaviour air conditioning can be an amazing way to enjoy the summer.
